10 WWE Tag-Teams That United A Face And Heel
Some tag teams are good, some tag teams bad, some tag teams... well, they can get a bit complicated.
Wrestling tag teams, like singles wrestlers, are usually babyface or heel.
Like all good wrestling stories should be, the best tag team feuds have pitted teams of two or more faces against teams of two or more heels in a battle of good vs evil, light vs dark, cliché vs cliché.
But sometimes cliché takes a backseat to innovation and a tag team is formed of two wrestlers with opposing views; one a heroic good guy and the other a dastardly villain.
One of the most famous examples of this was in WCW, when the heroic Sting teamed up with the villainous Lex Luger to become WCW Tag Team Champions in 1996. But it wasn't just WCW that teamed up goodies and baddies.
Over the WWE’s long history, there have been many tag teams comprised of a face and a heel, some of whom have gone onto have great success and even won championship gold numerous times.
Whilst they may not have remained this way, the following ten teams were all made up of a good guy and a bad guy when they first formed.
Let’s take a look at how these ten sets of goodies and baddies united for common cause.
10. The Rock And Chris Jericho
Before you say anything, yes, these guys were a team for a
short period of time.
By late 2001, the WWF had fully acquired WCW and all its property, including its World Championship. As a result, WWF wrestlers were now able to win the prestigious big gold belt, one of whom was The Rock.
The Great One put his WCW Championship on the line against Y2J at No Mercy that year and, in a pretty shocking turn of events, Jericho actually beat The Rock to win the belt. The man who had been looked over so many times when in WCW had finally won their top title, albeit in an entirely different promotion.
The next night on Raw, Rock and Jericho were put into a World Tag Team Championship match against The Dudley Boyz. The two men managed to work together well enough to defeat Bubba Ray and D-Von, thus becoming the new tag champs.
Whilst Jericho’s full heel turn would come at Survivor Series, where he turned on the WWF in their “Winner Takes All” elimination match with the Alliance, he was definitely showing a lot of heelish qualities whilst he was teaming with The Rock and their tag team title loss played into their rivalry, in which they traded the title numerous times.
Oh, and since this was 2001, The Rock was an ultra-babyface, which means they make this list. Which is convenient.
