10 WWE Tag Teams Vince McMahon Actually Loved
9. The Hart Foundation
In 1985, Vince McMahon offered Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart an opportunity. He proposed that Bret would be repackaged as ‘The Cowboy’ Bret Hart. Bret hated the idea and desperate for an alternative suggested a tag team. He would team with his brother-in-law Jim ‘The Anvil’ Neidhart and his manager ‘The Mouth of The South’. McMahon agreed naming the unit The Hart Foundation.
The Harts would go into an impressive run as a team. Lifting the WWE World Tag Team Championship on two occasions. Vince had such faith in the duo that they would regularly headline house shows. He knew that the combination of power and technical prowess would send a crowd home happy. By 1991, it was clear Bret’s future lay in one-on-one competition.
When Bret moved on to his legendary singles run. The chairman attempted to recreate the magic. Teaming Neidhart with Bret’s younger brother Owen Hart as The New Foundation. The team would not last for long as ‘The Anvil’ headed to WCW.
The Harts would ride again though. In 1997 The Hart Foundation was revived. This time as an anti-American heel faction. Led by Bret the group consisted of Owen, Neidhart, ‘The British Bulldog’ and Brian Pillman. The faction dominated WWE television throughout the summer months.
Sadly it would prove to be Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart’s final run together in WWE.
