10 WWE Things That Only Made Sense With Hindsight
6. HBK In JBL's Pocket
Even Shawn Michaels wasn't safe from the 2008 recession; in fact, it turned out he had blown his family's savings, and had to perform odd jobs for JBL in order to earn it back.
Initially, that seemed like a pretty sure-fire way to emasculate the 'Heartbreak Kid', particularly off the back of his loss to Chris Jericho, a feud which also called his ability to protect and look after his loved ones into question.
But in hindsight, it actually did Michaels' career at the time a lot of good. After being comprehensively beaten (and, in some ways, humiliated) by Y2J, Mr. WrestleMania needed to tie up the loose ends and prove that he was, in fact, a man of integrity.
The segments were a little cringe-worthy, granted, but HBK emerged from his stint in JBL's pocket ready for a WrestleMania match with The Undertaker, and for that reason it served its purpose.
