10 WWE Worst WrestleMania Gimmick Matches

With the odd exception, WWE let down its women’s division pretty badly - we’ve already discussed the great pillow fight of ‘06. It truly bottoms out here, though, in a match that manages to waste the time of 24 of the company’s female wrestlers, fail to entertain the crowd, and climaxes with something deeply insulting.

It all starts with Kid Rock. The Detroit noisemaker played a remarkably long set as the women shuffled past him , with their identities purposefully kept hush hush. From there, it was your standard WrestleMania battle royale, i.e quick, pointless, and giving almost no one a chance to shine.

Every battle royale has a winner, though, and this one was a doozy: Santina Marella, i.e the comedy wrestler Santino Marella in a dress. There were plenty of possible choices for the victor here, including Mickie James and Gail Kim (both of whom would shortly depart the company) and Beth Phoenix.

Instead, WWE sold out an entire roster for the sake of a quick gag. It was not well received, but thankfully they learned their lesson. No, hang on - they did essentially the exact same thing for the first women’s Money In The Bank match.
