10 WWE Worst WrestleMania Gimmick Matches

9. Gimmick Battle Royale (WrestleMania X-Seven)

This is bad like The Room is bad. Don’t get it twisted: the gimmick battle royale is a terrible piece of wrestling, featuring all the silliest wrestlers from the past several generations, including but not limited to the Bushwhackers, Kamala, Hillbilly Jim, and Earthquake.

Most of the participants no longer have it, if indeed they ever did. Many of them had long since departed the business, tempted back by the promise of the spotlight, or a quick payday, or both.

The work, then, is sloppy, but the nostalgia on offer here is downright delightful, and it’s capped off by the guest commentary team of Mean Gene Okerlund and Bobby Heenan, who quip and chuckle their way through the brief runtime. In one particularly memorable quip, Heenan states that the Iron Sheik won’t make it to the ring until WrestleMania 38, so we’ll see him in a few weeks.

Sheik gets the win, then receives the Cobra Clutch courtesy of Sergeant Slaughter. By any standards it’s one of the worst gimmick matches in WrestleMania history, but it could be the most watchable.
