10 WWE WrestleMania Matches That Were Just Too Long

7. David Sammartino Vs. Brutus Beefcake (WrestleMania)

What a different animal WrestleMania was in its earliest incarnation. Still-green Beefcake and no-frills Sammartino (seconded by his infinitely-more dynamic father) were given 12 minutes to work, the second-longest time of any match on the maiden show. On the same card, exceptional talents like Tito Santana, Ricky Steamboat, and Barry Windham all had between four and seven minutes to perform.

While not the worst match of all time, Beefcake vs. Sammartino was certainly dull. Sammartino stuck to the basics with a meek projection of personality, while Beefcake would only show marked improvement in the ring once he was paired with Greg Valentine not long after the show. The only particularly interesting portion of the match came when Bruno got physically involved, popping Madison Square Garden when he waylayed manager Johnny Valiant.
