He may have been with WWE since 1992, but Jerry Lawler never quite made his way up the card when it came to WrestleMania season.

In fact, you might have thought ‘The King’ was completely removed from the roster by the spring of each year, as he never had a match until he faced Michael Cole with Jack Swagger at WrestleMania 27, in which ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin was the special guest referee.

Looking back, the 22 minutes sacrificed for the commentator bout should have been allotted for more current performers. Nevertheless, you would have thought with Lawler actually being a wrestler and ‘The Texas Rattlesnake’ calling the shots, he should have picked up his one and only victory at ‘Mania. But in typical WWE fashion, he still lost via disqualification.

Regardless of the outcome, ‘The King’ revealed on ‘Stone Cold’s’ podcast he wasn’t sure why he didn't appear on the ‘Mania card sooner, especially since he frequently switched from announcer to wrestler to announcer again at other major shows, such as the Royal Rumble. Although he was appreciative of finally getting that one special moment at ‘The Show of Shows,’ he admitted he might have been a little happier if the match was… you know, better.
