10 WWE Wrestlers That Went From The Top To The Bottom Then Back Again
5. Becky Lynch
When Becky Lynch spoke about "puns and toast" and knowing nobody when she arrived at the Performance Center in 2013, it was an important reminder of the attributes underpinning the real person behind 'The Man'.
She was earnest, affable and incredibly likeable, just as she had been for much of her NXT run and early WWE days that followed. Boasting the qualities the company can't really book when they try, she was a sentimental favourite up to and including her evocative SmackDown Title win in 2016. When she lost that, she lost the lot.
Looking every bit the toy Vince McMahon had gotten bored with, it was astonishing to see how quickly and far she fell. Proper WrestleMania matches slipped view, let alone her longstanding dream to main event, with the obvious dissonance between audience and company at the heart of why her 2018 heel turn on Charlotte completed the zero-to-hero transition.
'The Man' was a flex and a half, but the character was always best when - like the understandable Stone Cold Steve Austin comparisons suggested - it remained drew from the commonality with the fanbase rather than basking in the glory of its personal successes.
