WWE star Big E has formally announced his retirement from in-ring action after approx 4 years on the shelf dealing with a serious neck injury. It was always feared that the injury, suffered during a tag-team match on the 11 March 2022 episode of SmackDown, could end his career. Now, via social media, the ex-New Day man has made it crystal clear what his immediate future holds.

Interestingly, during an interview with Compas On The Beat, E did add "never say never", but said he's "content" and wanted to thank fans for all of their support since a belly to belly suplex spot with Ridge Holland went wrong. Rather definitively (and flying in the face of the "never say never" comment), Big E also said: "That, for me, is it. I'm focused on other things right now".

Fans had hoped they might see E back in the ring at some point, especially when his old stablemates Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods turned heel on him during the 2 December 2024 Raw. Their cutting remarks seemed to suggest that a rebuttal was coming, and people dearly wished that it'd come from E himself.

That wasn't to be.

Big E has continued making appearances for the company as a talking head on PLE panels, but it looks like his in-ring days are done for good. He can always look back on his successes as part of New Day collectively, and an individually satisfying WWE Title win in late-2021.

In a typically classy moment from the guy, E stated on X: "It was an immeasurable gift to get to perform for you all".
