Despite his preposterous gimmick and silly name, Val Venis was an integral part of the Attitude Era in the WWE. Venis was a talented performer who was just as effective as a popular babyface as he was as a hated heel, his hypersexual personality a hit with the young adult crowd of the late '90s.

Val Venis and The Undertaker went one-on-one on WWE TV on just the one occasion, a match on Raw Is War way back in the year 2000. Interestingly enough however, the two men were up against each other whilst portraying their less famous characters. 'Taker was in full American Bad Ass mode, whereas Venis was a member of the evil Right To Censor faction.

The match isn't quite a classic, a five-minute sprint that 'Taker wins after hitting the Last Ride. Venis was slowly moving down the card at this point, although the RTC gimmick would last a few more months yet.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
