Johnny Gargano needs this more than anyone. He’s failing as a heel, which isn’t his fault, it’s just not something that comes naturally to him. His tweener run proved unsuccessful and since his full heel turn, Johnny has been booked to lose and relegated to the midcard whenever he’s on TV.
Fans believe in Gargano. He is one of the best babyfaces in company history and his 2018 run of matches was unsurpassable, he is capable of doing something with this newfound heel character and making something eventually great out of it. Allowing him to not be forced to stand on his own two feet exclusively as an antagonist would be helpful in getting practice for his heel promos, and would give him a purpose for his cruelty beyond being, mad (?) at NXT for not seeing his Rebel Heart?
You can reunite DIY properly as a heel tag team on the main roster for a while, protecting Ciampa for big spots and letting Gargano prove himself as the masterful tag wrestler he is. The possibility of an eventual babyface turn would be great too, fans naturally gravitate towards face Johnny’s selling and his relatable struggles against physical adversity, so him turning on the group after a few months would be a massive moment. Hopefully his character can be redefined by RETRIBUTION.
