10 WWE Wrestlers Who Could Break Records Before 2020 Ends

9. Andrade — Longest United States Championship Reign

Sticking with geography-based championships and lengthy reigns, what is going on with the United States Championship? The title has been largely irrelevant for the last decade, save for a brief renaissance around the waist of John Cena, of all people. It seems to be cursed in much the same way the Intercontinental Championship is, a once-credible title now reduced to an albatross around the neck of an increasingly lengthy list of supremely talented individuals.

Andrade is the latest man to get stuck with the title. WWE’s creative team seems to tick the performer off once a secondary title is around their waist, and Andrade is no different. El Idolo won the title back on Boxing Day, 2019, defeating Rey Mysterio at a Madison Square Garden house show. What has he done with the title in the four months since? Not much, but then neither did Shinsuke Nakamura, AJ Styles, Kevin Owens and the rest.

Despite all the negativity, there is something different about Andrade. Despite injuries and suspensions, WWE has refused (as of yet) to take the title off him. Why is that? The immediate assumption is that the company wants his eventual dethroning to mean something, but that would actually represent a break from the norm. The more likely reason is that WWE has anointed Andrade as the man to break Jon Moxley’s current record reign. Don’t think Vince McMahon is that petty? You might be interested in this old rope, on sale, right now.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
