10 WWE Wrestlers Who Get Way Too Much Criticism
2. Triple H
Few wrestlers have ever attracted the same level of scorn as Triple H. Ask The Game’s biggest critics what they think of him and they’ll say he was an unspectacular worker who existed only to curb other wrestler’s momentum, and that he’d be nowhere near the top if not for his relationship with Stephanie McMahon. There’s a smidgen of truth to each of these complaints, but to dismiss his legacy as a direct result of favouritism and politics does Triple H a great disservice.
At his peak, Triple H was a near-perfect performer. His career boasts countless excellent matches with the likes of Mick Foley, Shawn Michaels, and The Rock, and he has always been tremendously skilled on the microphone. As a heel, he is right up there with Ric Flair and Vince McMahon as an all-time great, and he was an outstanding antagonist for each of WWE’s top babyfaces during his prime.
Triple H has undoubtedly profited from favourable circumstances, but it’s too easy to forget just how good he is at his job. His talent, workrate, and ability to draw heat more than justifies his position at the table, regardless of the methods that brought him there. Love him or hate him, The Game has been at the heart of some of WWE’s most important moments and storylines since the Attitude Era, and he has never, ever, looked out of his depth.
