The well-known Curtain Call from The Kliq at Madison Square Garden - on the eve of Scott Hall and Kevin Nash leaving for WCW - ended up having no consequences for Shawn Michaels but huge ones for Triple H.

Vince McMahon grew to be increasingly frustrated with the four wrestlers embracing that night in the ring and was ready to crack down hard. But he couldn’t exactly punish the departing Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, and he couldn’t punish his untouchable WWE Champion Shawn Michaels.

Triple H though, was a relative newcomer. And McMahon didn’t hold back. Hunter has claimed in interviews that the WWF did everything they could to bury him for a lengthy period of time, giving him the worst matches, referees and opponents. The future heir to the organisation was punished four times as hard when McMahon couldn’t discipline his Kliq buddies. A planned King of the Ring win that year was cancelled, and Steve Austin had no issues with filling in for him.
