10 WWE Wrestlers Who Hated Triple H

5. Rob Van Dam

Like a couple of other names on this list, Rob Van Dam is cut from a very different cloth to the one that gave us Triple H. One, the clean-cut poster boy for the corporate side of the wrestling industry. The other, a stoner famous for landing on his head who was arguably the most popular underground wrestler during the industry's golden period. Expecting Rob Van Dam and Triple H to be best buds would be like expecting King Buzzo to chum up to, I don't know, Creed or something.

WWE's monopoly of the professional wrestling industry meant that the two were to cross paths eventually, and RVD finally found his way to the company (full-time) following the closure of ECW. Van Dam was actually one of a tiny number of Alliance talents to be treated as a star, but there was always a very definite ceiling on how far he could go. That ceiling bore a striking resemblance to Hunter Hearst Helmsley. The two had great matches, but they usually ended with intense déjà vu and a Pedigree.

HHH famously went on record saying that no matter how popular RVD was, he didn't have it in him to be a top star, an argument famously used against Daniel Bryan back in 2013. RVD has hit back by arguing that Trips simply used the ability of others to stay relevant, piggy-backing wherever possible. Agree to disagree chaps?

RVD sure could sell a Pedigree though, yikes.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
