10 WWE Wrestlers Who Should’ve Got One More Title Run
5. The British Bulldog
What? European Championship
When? Late 1997
Why? Unfortunately for the British Bulldog, he was robbed of a title run while he was still going strong with the company.
Back when the European Championship still meant something, at the September 1997 One Night Only show, a last-minute change of heart saw the Bulldog booked to lose the belt to Shawn Michaels in Birmingham, England. The logic was that he’d then regain the gold at a subsequent pay-per-view in his hometown of Manchester, England.
However, that Manchester PPV never materialised, and neither did Bulldog’s rematch.
Instead, Michaels held the belt for three more months before laying down for Triple H in December, making a mockery of the title in the process. During that reign, the infamous Montreal Screwjob also went down, which saw relations reach a nadir between the company and the British Bulldog (Bulldog being the brother-in-law of the departing Bret Hart).
In October ‘99, he did get another run with the belt, but it was two years too late and by then the championship had been devalued beyond repair.
