10 WWE Wrestlers Who Should’ve Got One More Title Run

3. Jerry Lawler

What? WWE Championship

When? Elimination Chamber 2011

Why? It's hard to say what’s more astonishing – Jerry Lawler’s purported record of 168 career title wins, the fact that none of those reigns came in WWE, or how he almost ended that drought in 2011 at the ripe old age of 61.

Though it sounds bad on paper, Lawler’s feud with The Miz exceeded expectations, in both arenas and the ratings, to the point that a one-off TV match ended up becoming a full-fledged PPV programme.

After stealing the show but coming up short in a TLC match on Raw, Lawler won a battle royal in the New Year to set-up a rematch at Elimination Chamber.

With this being Lawler’s one-and-only shot at sensationally entering WrestleMania as champion, there was already plenty of emotion behind the feud. Then, a week before the PPV, Lawler’s mother passed away.

That, combined with Lawler’s age and his recent resurgence, meant that crazily enough, the timing and circumstances just felt right to pull the trigger on a true feel-good title win. Plus, having Miz immediately win the title back, possibly even the very next night, would likely have given him a fair amount of heat heading into 'Mania.
