Vince McMahon never quite got the Raven character. When Scott Levy came back to WWE after years away, the boss is rumored to have remarked “Who the f**k hired Johnny Polo?”, which was his old cartoonish character in the company. It’s a shame if the boss didn’t see the man’s fantastic work in ECW and WCW as Raven.

In WWE, he was given a decent push upon his debut, and received a mid-card match at WrestleMania 17 against Kane and The Big Show, but after that was painfully underused. He spent most of his run as a jobber, and was a complete non-factor in The Invasion angle. After being relegated to appearing on Sunday Night Heat only, he was finally released.

A mere two days after being let go by WWE he showed up in TNA, and was put in a top program with Jeff Jarrett. It was great to see the old Raven back again, as the man was rejuvenated, and free to be himself. A couple of years later, he finally became a world champion again, something that Vince would have never gifted him with.

Now, not all of Raven’s work in TNA was great. Serotonin was another attempt at a Flock-like stable, and the EV 2.0 run wasn’t good for anyone. But overall, the man fared much better there, and it’s a too bad that he never got that one big push on the main stage he deserved.
