When Ring of Honor was founded and the first show was being planned, the company had all of the best independent wrestling stars they could get their hands on. What they were missing however, was a major star to attract the attention any newly formed wrestling organization would look for. It turns out, their answer to that problem was solved by Eddie Guerrero.

Latino Heat had recently been released from WWE following an arrest and was looking to reestablish himself on the independent scene. At The Era of Honor Begins, Guerrero was up against Super Crazy for the newly created IWA Intercontinental Championship. After a decent back and forth matchup Super Crazy was able to sneak out with a win and the championship after reversing a diving senton into a roll up. While this match, the only meeting between the two Mexican legends, was not an all time classic, it did not need to be given the stellar main event that was to follow.

This was not Eddie Guerrero's only appearance for Ring of Honor, as he returned to the company even after being resigned by WWE. Being allowed to finish his independent commitments, Guerrero wrestled at ROH's A Night of Appreciation where he and Amazing Red defeated Jose and Joel Maximo.
