100 Greatest WWE Matches Of All Time (Ranked)
98. DIY vs. The Revival (NXT TakeOver: Toronto 2016)
It's tough to beat classic tag-team wrestling that honours traditions whilst simultaneously serving a more modern audience. AEW's FTR have always understood this assignment whether they've been producing bangers for Tony Khan's company or working under WWE's umbrella as The Revival. Similarly, DIY duo Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano love getting the chance to spread their wings in-ring and work lengthier matches.
WWE gave both squads the chance to do that at NXT TakeOver: Toronto in 2016. Then-third brand boss Triple H booked a '2 Out Of 3 Falls' scrap for the NXT Tag Titles, and that turned out to be an inspired call by 'The Game'. Challengers DIY were right up against it after dropping the first fall to Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder, but then they roared back into contention by evening the score before taking the decisive third to take home the belts.
Toronto loved every single minute of this, and rightly so. It was a love letter to classic NWA tags of the past, but also had more than a splash of high-energy action people who liked groups like ROH or New Japan had come to expect. You'd honestly struggle to find a better tag-team match on NXT ever. That's how good this two-on-two was from mechanical start to glorious finish.
Not many could've called DIY riding high on WWE's main roster in 2025; certainly not compared to The Revival. It seemed nailed on that the latter would have a better stab at carving out long term success on Raw or SmackDown than their contemporaries.
