100 Greatest WWE Matches Of All Time (Ranked)
94. Eddie Guerrero vs. Edge (SmackDown, 26 September 2002)
A challenge was laid at the feet of both Eddie Guerrero and Edge before shooting their match for the 26 September 2002 edition of SmackDown. The gauntlet? Go out there and improve on your work together at Unforgiven. Technically, Eddie and Edge filmed this sequel 48 hours after the pay-per-view, but it didn't air until a few days later on TV.
Oh, also - they smashed their goal. The 'No DQ' follow up from Unforgiven was way better than the PPV encounter had been. In truth, that flattered to deceive, and it struggled to properly get going. There were no such problems in San Diego for SmackDown. Guerrero and the future 'Rated-R Superstar' were clearly on a mission to exorcise the mini-demons that had plagued them in LA.
Not even the usual commercial break sandwiched in between segments for regular television could derail what this determined duo had planned. They were raring to knock it out of the park, and they'd even introduce ladders so the finish was as exciting as possible. It's a lot harder than it used to be thanks to the WWE Network's demise, but give this one a look in if you can find it (or if WWE uploads it on YouTube/eventually puts this episode on Netflix).
The stunning Edge-O-Cution finish from atop a ladder must be seen to be believed. Eddie Guerrero had nuts made of solid steel to even agree to that, and it had to be a painful landing for Edge as well. Fans applauded Guerrero post-match even though he was the clear heel.
That really says it all. What a match.
