3. The Rock vs. Steve Austin (WrestleMania X-Seven)

Then, there are millions of fans who consider WrestleMania X-Seven the most perfect supercard of all time. They'll point to the second TLC match, Vince McMahon vs. Shane (with a Linda McMahon standing up spot that popped the house), a fine scrap between The Undertaker and Triple H which WWE promptly ignored years later, the retro-tastic 'Gimmick Battle Royal', and even Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit on the midcard as proof.

The main event, which had Steve Austin desperately trying to become WWF Champ again by beating fellow babyface The Rock, would divide opinion forevermore due to 'Stone Cold' going heel and joining forces with McMahon, but the bell to bell action was sensational. This is regarded as one of the top liners responsible for popularising finisher kick outs/near falls aplenty too.

It's hard to argue on that, but then it's also hard to deny that Rocky and Austin had everyone on the edge of their seats when just getting shoulders up following Rock Bottoms and Stone Cold Stunners. You could feel Austin's desperation with each passing moment - it was agony for him to see Rock continue to kick out, so Steve linked up with "the devil himself" (JR's words) to get what he needed.

The atmosphere was ridiculously great, two top stars were at the peak of their majesty, and there was even a divisive finish to talk about afterwards. Rock and Austin had plenty of cracking matches as rivals, but they'd never better 'Mania X-Seven even when the latter was retiring with a final bow in 2003.

The 'Attitude Era' was coming to a close on a real high.
