WWF bigwigs knew exactly what their poster for 'Mania X8 was going to be as soon as The Rock and Hollywood Hogan confirmed they'd be locking horns in Toronto. "Icon vs. Icon" was the war cry a full 12 years on from Hogan's incredible "Ultimate Challenge" vs. The Ultimate Warrior in the same SkyDome venue. Both workers had as many goosebumps rippling across their skin as fans watching.

Literally everybody knew this was the biggest attraction on the card, but Vince McMahon went with Triple H beating Chris Jericho for the Undisputed Title as the headliner instead. Was that a mistake? Yes and no. Hunter's return in front of an impassioned MSG the prior January had been popular, but there's no doubting Hulk vs. Rocky would've rocked if going on last. In truth, the match hogged the spotlight regardless of placement anyway.

A stand off on Raw had been blood pumping stuff before the match took place. Then, in Toronto, fans created a wall of noise as Hogan and The Rock came face to face. Honestly, the duo could've stood there for an eternity and heard the same duelling chants; for the record, those "duelling chants" quickly gave way to predominant Hulk bias. The meal ticket was back, and WWF fans were ready for him.

It says everything for these guys that simply standing still inside the ring staring at one another created a WrestleMania moment for the ages. What occurred next increased volume further inside the Dome. That seemed like a far-fetched idea considering the commotion before either man touched!
