Picture WrestleMania X8 and what do you see? Triple H hoisting the Undisputed Title aloft at the end of the show? Behave yourself - it has to be The Rock and Hulk Hogan stealing the card with their 'Icon vs. Icon' battle.

That should've gone on last in Toronto, but Trips convinced decision makers that the title match should go on last. So, he and defending champ Chris Jericho awkwardly brawled around in front of a largely apathetic crowd that wanted to go home after seeing one of the greatest showdowns in 'Mania folklore.

They'd roared themselves hoarse and had nothing more to give. However, on the 25 March 2002 Raw, Trips defended his newly won title vs. Jericho and Stephanie McMahon in a Triple Threat. That came a week and change after WrestleMania X8, and it was a vast improvement in every way.

Rather shockingly, the addition of Steph (which seemed unwanted on paper) made things more fun than the ‘Mania main event slog. It certainly helped that the 'Billion Dollar Princess' had been told she'd be fired if she didn't do her best to win the title.

Memorable visuals like 'Y2J' holding Hunter in the Walls Of Jericho as a desperate McMahon tried to choke him out heaped drama on this one. It's a pity that few care to recall it at all these days. This was the kind of soap opera theatre that the 'Attitude Era' (which was about to give way to 'Ruthless Aggression') was known for.
