11 Famous Wrestling "Holy Grounds" That Still Stand
2. Tokyo Dome
It's only been a fairly recent development that over here in the west we look upon the Tokyo Dome with such reverence. Oh sure, in the '90s, a killer's row of legends wrestled in the Big Egg for New Japan's January 4 show, including Masahiro Chono, Vader, and Hulk Hogan, but most fans overseas were unaware of what was going on unless they were really plugged in (which wasn't easy at the time). In the 2000s, communication got better, but New Japan's reputation plummeted with a depleted roster and questionable booking decisions, so again, few paid the Tokyo Dome mind.
But with the 2010s came New Japan's re-arrival, and a new perspective on the Tokyo Dome show, now called Wrestle Kingdom. With the likes of Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kazuchika Okada, Kenny Omega, and Tetsuya Naito delivering MOTY candidates every year in the Dome, the annual show is seen by many fans as more sacred than WrestleMania, and has given birth to the joke that Dave Meltzer would give more WWE matches 5 stars if they took place in the Tokyo Dome.
Whether true or not, it speaks to how important the Dome is nowadays.
