The quality of the Clash of the Champions shows had drastically lowered by the time the fifth edition came around, but such was the professional wrestling world in the late 1980s. The best match on this occasion was a barely passable tag match between The Varsity Club and The Fantastics, with nothing of any real value happening on the show.

Well, except for a long in-ring segment featuring the World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair and the number one challenger to his crown, Ricky Steamboat. Flair comes out and gives a typical Flair promo talking of his lifestyle and fondness for women, before somehow turning into a pimp and offering Steamboat any of his women for that night.

Steamboat is all ethics though, and The Dragon refuses the offer. A brawl ensues, and somehow this ends with Flair being stripped all the way down to his undercrackers. Steamboat ends the segment wearing Flair's tattered suit as the crowd goes wild.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
