It would prove to be Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat's last match inside a wrestling ring for nearly 15 years, and what a way to go out. Steamboat defeated 'Stunning' Steve Austin to capture the WCW United States Championship for the fourth time in a match that blew away everything else on the show.

Admittedly the show contained The Nasty Boys vs. Pretty Wonderful and Ric Flair vs. Hulk Hogan, but there we go.

Steamboat rolled-up Austin for the win after what may have been 348 cradles in a row, but it was a bump earlier in the match that this is remembered for. Steamboat fell awkwardly from a superplex position halfway through the contest, and it would prove serious enough to end his storied career just a short time later.

Steamboat gave up the US Championship and was fired a few months later by WCW President Eric Bischoff - via FedEx, naturally.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
