After the misery of Clash V, the show returned to form with its next instalment. Clash of the Champions VI came with the ridiculous subtitle of 'Ragin' Cajun', and the card was oh so much stronger from top to bottom. It was also the last Clash that went head-to-head with a WWF PPV with the intent of hurting the competition's buyrate.

The show was headlined by a two-out-of-three falls match between Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat, a match that didn't involve any suits being ripped off. Flair and Steamboat were known for putting on absolutely fantastic matches, and they certainly didn't disappoint with this one.

Steamboat pulled out the win, but the victory came in controversial fashion (as was the norm in the late 1980s). The final fall came as The Dragon had Flair in the double chickenwing, which Flair countered by falling on top of Steamboat. Ricky got his shoulder up at the last minute, although it transpired that the Alimony Pony had his foot under the rope.

All of this led to another battle between the two at WrestleWar 1989, something nobody was complaining about.
