On January 27th 1993, Andre the Giant passed away.

Andre was the single most iconic professional wrestler of his time and possibly any other, a truly larger-than-life presence in a land of superstars. Andre had crossover mainstream popularity, frequently appearing in films and on TV programmes. Ordinary folk didn't know who Tito Santana was, but they certainly knew who Andre the Giant was. How could you not remember a face like that?

Andre's final wrestling TV appearance came at the 20th edition of Clash of the Champions. Andre didn't look well at all and uttered just the one sentence, but this will go down in history as the true end of the most iconic career in wrestling.

And, might I add, HOT DAMN did Missy Hyatt look good!

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
