The SummerSlam 2022 main event announcement was as low energy as modern day WWE are capable of, but the confirmation of the match oddly inspired some lost souls to assume that maybe this time the company would come up with a creative reason for the pair to fight.

They didn't.

Doing the usual of having the pair avoid almost any televised physicality until the show itself, WWE instead simply opened themselves up to the criticism and let it wash over them until the match was over. Rumours of Brock Lesnar's supposed walkout following the news of Vince McMahon's retirement spiced things up for a second, but only until Bill Goldberg was randomly named as the only viable replacement.

Subsequently, what was previously billed as "The Biggest WrestleMania Match Of All Time" has become the lesser of two evils at SummerSlam. But it's still the worst of everything else - the result's not in doubt even with a possible cash-in, a Last Man Standing stipulation does nothing to change that, and the most Vince McMahon main event in wrestling will headline the first Premium Live Event he's not with the company for.

Tune in!

Winner - Roman Reigns
