Indulge me if you will, and head back for a moment to WrestleMania 32. The card centred around four big matches, three of which involved the men of World Wrestling Entertainment. Roman Reigns took on Triple H in the main event, whilst Shane McMahon and The Undertaker fought inside Hell in a Cell and Brock Lesnar and Dean Ambrose had a no holds barred match. The show ended up being a fairly disappointing one.

The depressing thing about those three matches is the fact that four of the six men performed at WrestleManias before WMXX. Taker, Triple H and Shane competed at WMX-Seven, with Lesnar in the main event of WMXIX. This is a damning indictment of WWE's ability to create new stars, something that the brand split should only make easier.

This year, WWE has lost Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes, two guys who seemed destined for long careers at the top of the WWE tree. Ryback, another potential main event guy, is surely soon to follow. In order to stop talent getting disillusioned and leaving, WWE must focus on and succeed at making new stars, rather than relying on the big names of the past.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
