11 Legendarily BAD Wrestling Runs (With One ICONIC Moment)
1. Bret Hart Tricks Bill Goldberg
Bret Hart looked like an alien who had crash landed on earth and was only pretending to be the 'Hitman' when he debuted in WCW at the tail end of 1997. Personally, Bret was still very much reeling from the events of the infamous 'Montreal Screwjob' in the WWF, and he'd truthfully never properly get going in Atlanta.
Standout moments were seldom. Matches vs. Booker T and Chris Benoit did offer something for his longtime fans to chew on, but Hart seemed like a bit part player on the whole. Then, we got the 29 March 1999 Nitro. That showed what would've been possible had Bret been more inspired and WCW less oversaturated with top stars.
The 'Hitman' wore a sneaky steel plate underneath his Toronto Maple Leafs ice hockey jersey, and Goldberg was knocked out cold when he speared Bret after being goaded. Again, not much about Hart’s WCW run was memorable or even decent, but this was fab stuff. It was wonderfully creative, and it didn't even make the babyface (Goldberg) look like an idiot either.
That's win-win.
Regrettably, Hart's entire stint in WCW would fizzle out then end terribly with an errant kick from Bill at Starrcade 1999. Somewhat strangely, Bret has failed to mention that or bring it up in shoots since. Weird. Seriously though, that steel plate scenario would wind up being his biggest angle.
