11 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About WrestleMania

2. The Crowd Really Hated That Goldberg Vs. Lesnar Match At WrestleMania 20

When WWE set up the Bill Goldberg/Brock Lesnar angle during the 2004 Royal Rumble, the idea was that it would set up a dream match between two of the most powerful wrestlers ever. Instead, it was one of the most memorable matches for all the wrong reasons. A bad match? Yeah, but it was the reaction that people remember the most. The crowd at Madison Square Garden hated both guys so much that they chanted negative things the whole match. It's not like they supported one over the other. They hated both because they knew they were leaving. Goldberg only signed a one year deal, so it was his last night in the company. Fans apparently were mad about that. They let him know. Lesnar was leaving the company because he was sick of the travel and the schedule. He was leaving for the NFL. Those "you sold out" chants were pretty weird considering he was walking away from a huge contract to go chase an uncertain future. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9D0h8K2feg The DVD of the show was also heavily edited. It was so obvious that they had messed with the chants during the match. There were times when they simply muted the crowd or used that piped in crowd noise they sometimes go with. At least they had Steve Austin to save it as the ref and give the Stunner to both guys. Still, it was not the "dream match" WWE management thought it was.
