11 Things You Didn't Know About WWE Money In The Bank

10. You Don’t Need To Be In It, To Win It

The Money in the Bank ladder match is a fairly tired creative crutch these days, but you can’t really say that WWE hasn’t tried to change it up over the years. You can say that those attempts have been disastrous, but better to try and fail than not try at all, right? Right.

In the history of the match, two men have climbed the ladder and claimed the briefcase despite either not being announced for the match or not being in it at all. James Ellsworth (remember him?) holds the honour of being the first to do so, scaling the ladder and grabbing the case before handing it to his charge, Carmella. The stunt was an absolute disaster for a host of reasons, but having a bloke grab the very first women’s Money in the Bank briefcase is the most glaring. WWE, you do you.

Brock Lesnar is the only man to win to the match despite not being announced for it, doing so last year. In typically 'Beast Incarnate' form, Lesnar watched on as a host of superstars desperately lunged for that mythical brass rings, putting their bodies through hell in the hope of a shot at a world championship. Ali (remember him?) came closest, only for Lesnar to run down to the ring and extinguish that dream. Is there a weird world where Ali is running around as a dominant WWE Universal Champion?

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
