Over the years, the Money in the Bank briefcase has become synonymous with kickstarting careers, with propelling individuals to the summit. The opportunities afforded by the gimmick have been the little push needed to make world champions out of performers such as Daniel Bryan, Rob Van Dam, Seth Rollins and plenty more. Sure, you’ve got missteps like Damien Sandow and Baron Corbin, but for every Sandow there is a CM Punk, for every Corbin a Dean Ambrose.

The briefcase helped Edge become a world champion too. The 'Rated-R Superstar' was the first man to win the match and he eventually became the first to cash-in, doing so after holding onto the briefcase for a whopping 280 days. Edge also became the first man to cash-in twice, doing so after beating Mr. Kennedy for the briefcase.

Plenty of records, but Edge remains the only WWE Hall of Famer in the long list of Money in the Bank match winners. This will almost certainly change in the years to come, as John Cena, Randy Orton, Daniel Bryan, Kane and others are Hall of Fame entrants waiting to happen. How many Hall of Famers have failed to win the match? Four, for the record.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
