...here comes Mongo! Many a football player has made the transition from the 50-yard line to the squared circle, true, but the difference in Steve "Mongo" McMichael is that he kept a firm hold on his former career as a Chicago Bear. Nothing makes this more evident than his ring attire, seen above, which consisted not only of a Bears jacket, but also his number displayed proudly on the leg of his wrestling trunks. Nonetheless, he took the gimmick a bit further by incorporating some football-inspired moves into his repertoire. Among these were the three-point stance, which would lead into either a clothesline or a football tackle, and his signature move, the Mongo Spike- a reference to his never having been able to spike the ball in football due to never having personally scored in the NFL. He also had his Super Bowl ring on hand, which was stolen during a feud with another ex-football player in WCW by the name of Goldberg. Though he initially took up the microphone as a commentator, Mongo did see some success in the ring as the WCW United States Champion and a member of the legendary Four Horsemen. Oh, and for those wondering? We're counting Mongo here since WWE bought WCW, effectively tying the two together. If it makes you feel any better, he did appear at WrestleMania XI as a commentator/backup for Lawrence Taylor in his match against Bam Bam Bigelow, meaning he sort of got his start in wrestling there.
