11 United States Champions (Who Didn't Come From America)

9. Kensuke Sasaki

Tajiri United States Champion
WWE Network

If Tajiri was the second Japanese wrestler to win the US Championship, then who was the first? That honour goes to Kensuke Sasaki, who became the first competitor to win the title outside of the USA by defeating none other than Sting at a New Japan Pro Wrestling house show in 1995.

Sasaki dropped the belt just over a month at Starrcade, to the One Man Gang.

Interestingly enough, Sasaki actually lost the belt in a post-PPV dark match. The bout was restarted and Sasaki retained the title, but this was never acknowledged by World Championship Wrestling and OMG moved forward as champion.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
