11 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dynamite (7 Sept)

5. A Most Excellent Spotfest

AEW's new World Trios Champions were determined in a pulse-pounding spotfest, the likes of which the promotion has specialised in since day one.

It was exactly the kind of match AEW needed to keep the show's energy going after MJF and Jon Moxley's promo segment. The popcorn-and-fireworks opener is an easy, easy win near the start of the show. It always has been - and Death Triangle, Orange Cassidy, and Best Friends more than upheld their end of the bargain.

A bout full of nutty spots saw Chuck Taylor cannonball dive off the ramp onto a pile of human beings, the usual array of excellent Cassidy reversals (his interactions with PAC were particularly great, as you'd expect), and Trent Beretta and Taylor going for simultaneous pinfalls after hitting the Crunchie and Awful Waffle respectively. Eventually, once the dives and bombs and chaos had cleared the ring, PAC hit the Black Arrow on Taylor for the pin.

Death Triangle would've been many a fan's pick to become the first title-holders when the Trios Championships were first rumoured in 2020. May they now do a great job in The Elite's absence.
