11 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Fyter Fest 2021 Night 1
Miro unveils a glorious new TNT Title as AEW ushers in a glorious new era of noise.
Last week's AEW Dynamite underscored the stratospheric standards against which this show is generally judged.
It boasted an excellent main event, no less than four promos that ranged from very good to exceptional, a shock debut made by an enormously talented ex-WWE star two full months before anybody expected it, and a white-hot angle building to a match so anticipated that nobody is truly prepared for it.
Matches; promos; angles: Road Rager, layered with the details-rich storytelling that makes obsessives out of fans, delivered everything one could reasonably expect from an episodic wrestling TV show.
And yet, it was merely very good, and in some cases flawed.
The Cody Rhodes Vs. QT Marshall South Beach Strap Match delivered a quality, fired-up finish that did not f*ck around to a match that could not transcend its genre trappings. The Inner Circle Vs. Pinnacle trios match was certainly good, but not good enough to build unbearable anticipation ahead of the traditional FTR Vs. Santana and Ortiz tag team war. Andrade El Idolo has inexplicably transformed into a methodical body guy, and his laboured debut opposite Matt Sydal was dispiriting.
As for this week's Dynamite...?
