11 Ups & 10 Downs For Impact Wrestling In 2020
8. Eddie's Forgotten Trophy
Eddie Edwards' victory of the inaugural Call Your Shot Gauntlet Match at the 2019 Bound For Glory pay-per-view was exactly what the former American Wolves man needed following his rivalry with Ace Austin. His best of five series opposite Michael Elgin over the trophy at the onset of 2020 was also excellent, as those two provided some bangers together.
All of this combined makes it a shame that Eddie never actually cashed in his trophy, as Impact's creative team seemingly forgot all about it.
Keep in mind this was the debut of the Call Your Shot trophy, although there had been a similar match held in 2015 and 2016 known as the Bound For Gold Gauntlet, where the winner also received a World Championship match whenever they so desired. That didn't lead to much for either winner, as both Tyrus and Eli Drake failed in their title quests. That Impact literally forgot about Eddie's trophy, despite this being the first time the trophy had been won, didn't exactly leave a positive taste.
Yes, he actually won the vacant World Championship at Slammiversary, but why did he even need to be in the match itself? He easily could have waited until either Ace Austin, Trey Miguel, Eric Young, or Rich Swann lifted the title, and cashed in on a prone opponent. It's simply booking.
