11 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Double Or Nothing 2022

1. American Top Team vs. Sammy Guevara, Tay Conti, and Frankie Kazarian

The most maligned AEW feud in memory at least came packaged with the appeal of it being wrapped via Paige VanZant's first ever wrestling match, as she teamed with Ethan Page and Scorpio Sky to face Tay Conti, Sammy Guevara, and Frankie Kazarian.

That everybody in this program has been a heel (or at least behaved like one) at some point in the feud worked to the match's detriment. It's very, very difficult to invest in a match when none of the participants have been presented as likeable for longer than a few minutes at a time. Thus, the crowd were more muted for this bout than any other up to this point and while the work was largely solid, the viewing experience was rough.

PVZ finally got in the ring after much teasing, dumping Conti to the deck with a double leg takedown. She has personality - and the ability to believably impart it into a pro wrestling environment. Her more elaborate moves looked better than her fundamentals, though, with the rope runs and clotheslines definitely those of somebody in their first match. Nonetheless, she looked fine. Those flaws will be trained out of her in no time.

Kazarian eventually decided he'd had enough of the two idiots he was teaming with, though the competitor within prevented him from bailing entirely. He was pinned for the finish after Sammy accidentally clocked Tay, having finally given this months-long storyline its first actual babyface towards the end of the blowoff bout.
