11 Ups & 4 Downs For Impact Wrestling In 2020 (So Far)
8. Rebellion
Due to Impact taping enough programming before the no crowd era kicked in, it meant they still had fans in attendance up to the middle of April, heading into their planned Rebellion pay-per-view that month. Sadly, the event never went ahead as planned, but was instead changed to a two-part special as part of the weekly shows for the final two weeks of the month. While not the original idea Impact had in mind for the show, the events still tore the house down just as much as expected.
Perhaps the biggest talking points coming out of the shows were the two new champions who had their crowning moment, with Willie Mack capturing the X Division Championship from Ace Austin in a show-stealing contest on the first week, while Moose main evented the second part as the apparent TNA World Heavyweight Champion. Though not recognised as an official championship within Impact Wrestling, Moose has maintained possession of the strap ever since, going on to have a few successful defences of the title in the process - more than what can be said about the now-former official World Champion.
In terms of the in-ring action across the two nights, Sami Callihan and Ken Shamrock's cinematic main event from part one was a masterpiece. Granted, it had the wrong winner at the time, but in hindsight, having the Hall of Famer winning the clash has led to a somewhat decent story with himself and Callihan forging some sort of alliance. Additionally, Havok and Rosemary had a chaotic Full Metal Mayhem Match that saw the mysterious arrival of the former's soon-to-be tag team partner Nevaeh, and a truly phenomenal four way X division contest between Chris Bey, Rohit Raju, Trey, and Suicide kicked the second half off in grand fashion.
Overall, the two halves to the second annual Rebellion went down a treat. Not how we had expected to see the events transpire, but all things considered, this was perhaps the best case thus far of Impact rising to the occasion under these circumstances.
