11 Ups And 8 Downs From WWE Royal Rumble 2018
2. Legends Overshadow Roster
When the women’s Royal Rumble match was announced as a 30-woman affair, you knew there would be plenty of legends entering the bout.
But what you didn’t expect was that they would turn around and literally eliminate half the field.
You read that right: Hall-of-Famers, legends and barely active women tossed half of the wrestlers in the Rumble. Michelle McCool eliminated five women, including four in rapid succession. Trish Stratus tossed three. Lita ejected two. Molly Holly and Torrie Wilson each eliminated one. And the Bella Twins pitched four women between them.
This is not to say that these women should not have had their moment in the sun and gotten to toss some deadwood. But when Raw and SmackDown roll around this week, none of those women (save maybe for Nikki) are going to be there. So what was gained?
Again, this isn’t a criticism of having them get involved and toss a couple women, but when seven women who have wrestled exactly one match in WWE in the last 10 months eliminate 16 of the 29 women from the Rumble, that’s a glaring problem.
