11 Wrestling Easter Eggs You Totally Didn't Notice
5. The Big Show's Name Was Also A Rib
Paul Wight was originally nicknamed the Big Nasty Bastard before Vince McMahon decided to name him after another billionaire.
Or at least his property.
Wight also used to wear a t-shirt captioned 'No Gimmicks Needed', and while the Wayback Machine doesn't go back that far, it's almost certain that the Ross Report had a scathing and knowing retort.
The man who has turned more than any other performer experienced a personality crisis, or crises, from his very start date in the company. The man who didn't need any gimmicks was given a gimmick WWE dropped before handing him another gimmick. If you experienced whiplash at the time, his dire performance level would have corrected it, since he didn't exactly compel you to bounce around the living room in excitement.
Eventually - you'd think Vince McMahon operating near the peak of his powers would have a detailed plan with which to push the closest thing to André The Giant - he was renamed 'The Big Show' to further flex over Ted Turner via the devastating weapon that is an acronym.
My show's bigger now, pal, and it ain't made out of plastic.
