3. Let The Wrestlers Wrestle
No match carried the weight of prior disappointments any more so than Seth Rollins' Universal Title defence against AJ Styles. The pair weren't fighting against each other so much as they were the feuds over the years that seem to have diffused the very concept of "Dream Match" in WWE.
A great wrestling organisation shouldn't get in the way of great wrestlers having great wrestling matches, but this is the "Universe" both Rollins and Styles have chosen to prove their supremacy in, and have resultantly blown white hot and ice cold in equal measures over the past few years.
The stated aim of making them the mirror image of one another was achieved with their matching gear long before they went move-for-move, but the absorbing back-and-forth effort was, for a change, richly in service of their superlative skill set.
A gripping final third peaked in time with audience excitement too - Styles countering the curb stomp with a Styles Clash generated the near fall of the night before Seth hit it for real just minutes later. In the clodding era of the multi-match series, the sense of joy over a definitive victory was almost as satisfying as the superb match itself.
