For some observers, the jury is still out on whether the Network is the biggest waste of money in WWE. It hasn't been the rip roaring success that WWE envisioned, hence why they had to give away two free months in its first year. Throw in the free weeks they did as well and you can see that WWE were desperate to get sign ups. Even with all of that, they are only just at a break even point with the Network. They hit a million subscribers just after Royal Rumble and can probably maintain a 800,000 to just over a million subscribers through WrestleMania. After that, subscriptions are likely to drop again, but should still hover around the 700,000 mark. WWE are unfortunately some way off the level of subscribers they need to make the Network comparable to the money that pay per views were generating before this all started. Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter states "Youd still need about 1.4 million average subscribers for the year for the profitability of that aspect of the company to be at the levels it was from 2007 to 2010, before it started spending significant money each year on this project, based on the latest estimates." Until WWE reach a wider subscribing audience, the Network has thus far been a big waste of money. But in the long run, you have to believe it is going to be worth it, you have to believe it is the way of the future.
