12 Biggest "What If" Scenarios In WWE WrestleMania History

7. WrestleMania 30: What If The Streak Doesn’t End?

Thousands of words have been spilled on pages opining the fate of the Undertaker had The Streak never reached such prominence. A loss to Ric Flair at WrestleMania X8 or Randy Orton at WrestleMania 21 would have killed it off before it became a fabled part of Mania. That in turn would have nixed The Streak – and quite possibly Undertaker himself – being an attraction at WrestleMania in the latter years.

But rather than picking a random year, let’s look at the year The Streak actually ended: WrestleMania 30 in 2014, when Brock Lesnar became the one in 21-1. Taker has told the story about how the decision wasn’t made until the day of the show, meaning that there was a very real scenario in which The Streak survived Mania.

What would have happened if Vince McMahon went the other way and preserved Undertaker’s perfect record at WrestleMania? Lesnar already was a conquering beast, but he gained a fair amount of prestige and bragging rights by beating Taker, so a lot of Paul Heyman’s preening would have had to change. Perhaps they could have shot an angle with Brock putting Taker on the shelf afterward, allowing him to boast about that. WWE likely would have found something for Lesnar to build himself up, but he would have lost a huge pelt if he had failed to slay the Undertaker. It’s entirely possible that Brock’s aura would have been diminished by a WrestleMania 30 loss.

For Taker himself, the myth would have only grown. The question would have remained, when should The Streak end, and who should break it? If Bray Wyatt was still UT’s opponent the following year at Mania 31, WWE might have been more willing to put him over as the conqueror since Undertaker hadn’t just lost the year prior. Imagine the possible change in Bray’s career trajectory if he had the bragging rights to ending The Streak.

Or Undertaker could have remained undefeated until WrestleMania 33, and Roman Reigns – the only other man to defeat Taker at Mania – could have ended The Streak. In that case, the reaction from fans might only have been worse toward the Big Dog.
