12 Bizarre Pieces Of Trivia About WWE Action Figures
9. The Blue Blazer Was A Repaint Of The Patriot
The death of Owen Hart is nothing short of tragic, and in a way, this action figure makes it just a little more so. For those who might be unaware (and without getting into the gritty details), Owen Hart died in 1999 in WWF's "Over the Edge" pay-per-view when the harness rigging he was using to descend to the ring from the rafters released him, causing him to fall to his death. At the time, he was portraying his alter-ego of The Blue Blazer, a "buffoonish" superhero who attempted to make dramatic entrances. Unfortunately for Jakks Pacific, they had released their first Blue Blazer action figure just weeks prior, meaning that the figure portraying Owen as he appeared in his final moments was probably starting to show up in stores right around the time of his death. Naturally, this made the figure an instant collectible. What makes it sad is that the first- and now, only- figure of The Blue Blazer came before Jakks began going high-end on their figures, and the masked head is actually a repaint of the head used for The Patriot's figure. You can even see the eagle sculpted onto the head if you look closely. Whether you want the figure in remembrance of Owen or want nothing to do with it due to how he died, it's sad to think that in either case, the last figure to depict him wasn't even its own sculpt.
