12 Bizarre Pieces Of Trivia About WWE Action Figures

8. WWE Goes Commando

While it made a certain amount of sense for Sgt. Slaughter to join G.I. Joe, and seeing Roddy Piper eventually appear as his opposite number was cool, no one was really expecting WWF Superstars to turn out en masse to enlist, much less go into business for themselves. Yet that's exactly what we got in 1997 as Jakks Pacific took the name "Raw is War" too seriously and rolled out their new line of WWF S.T.O.M.P. (Special Tactical Operation Military Police) figures. Consisting of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, his former partner Brian Pillman, Ahmed Johnson, The Undertaker, Ken Shamrock, and Crush, each figure came with a variety of special missions armor and weaponry- or in Taker's case, a large scythe and axe. The line must have done well, though, as it wasn't long before Jakks introduced a second series to the line, seen above. As the name implies, S.T.O.M.P. 2: Underwater Siege was focused on underwater warfare, with Austin, Chyna, The Headbangers, Owen Hart, and the yet-to-be-rebranded Rocky Maivia equipped with harpoons, flippers, and SCUBA tanks to take on a group of ill-defined terrorists.
Soon after that, S.T.O.M.P. ventured towards the final frontier as Kane, The Undertaker, Marc Mero, Sable, and the oddly suitable LOD 2000 set controls for outer space, now flying higher than ever before in "Space Domination." Still fighting terrorists unworthy of any further elaboration, the lot featured space-themed (of course) weapons and armor in what would be the last of the S.T.O.M.P. series. After all, once you've conquered space, what else is left? And that's the story of why it's now called the WWE Universe.
