12 Greatest Ever Fictional Wrestlers

9. Nacho - Nacho Libre

It's been nine years since the release of Nacho Libre, and coincidentally, the ninth anniversary of my talking point about how Nacho Libre is an underrated gem. Despite being a Napoleon Dynamite-esque farce, it's based upon the life of Fray Tormenta, a genuine catholic priest who moonlighted as a luchador enmascarado to fund his orphanage. The other stuff, such as our hero having an emaciated homeless man as a tag partner, or climbing the Cliffs of Insanity to gain EAGLE POWER NUTRIENTS, not so much.

As any real wrestling fan knows, there is no route to self-actualization more effective than grappling excellence. Nacho's story is farcical, but his emotional journey from glory-obsessed fanboy to altruistic champion is genuine and heartfelt. Plus, it turns out he really can harness mystical eagle powers, complete with literal flight and a raptorian screech.
